Supreme Court Upholds TikTok Ban, App to Cease U.S. Operations

The Supreme Court has upheld legislation requiring ByteDance to divest TikTok's U.S. operations or face a ban, ending years of legal battles over the popular social media app. The 8-1 decision rejected TikTok's First Amendment arguments, finding that national security concerns justified the restriction.

TikTok has approximately 170 million American users who now face losing access to the platform. ByteDance has indicated it will not sell the U.S. business, calling the forced divestiture "confiscation" of its intellectual property.

The decision sets a precedent for government action against foreign-owned technology platforms on national security grounds.
