Why AI Needs Urgent Regulation Before It's Too Late

The artificial intelligence industry is moving at a pace that far outstrips our ability to understand, let alone regulate, its implications. This is a recipe for disaster.

In the past year alone, we've seen AI systems that can generate convincing fake images and video, write essays indistinguishable from human work, and engage in conversations that fool most people. These capabilities are advancing exponentially while governance frameworks barely exist.

History teaches us that waiting for harm before regulating powerful technologies is foolish. We didn't wait for nuclear weapons to be used before developing arms control frameworks. We shouldn't wait for AI catastrophe before implementing safeguards.
