Amazon has announced the acquisition of a major regional hospital chain, marking its most ambitious move yet into healthcare delivery. The $15 billion deal will give Amazon direct control over 35 hospitals and hundreds of outpatient facilities across six states.
The acquisition builds on Amazon's existing healthcare investments, including its One Medical primary care clinics, PillPack pharmacy, and recently launched virtual care services.
"Healthcare is broken in America, and we believe we can help fix it," said Amazon CEO Andy Jassy.
